The
surefooted Dall sheep (Ovis dalli dalli) frequents mountainsides
steep enough to discourage predators. This magnificent
animal, named after famed naturalist and explorer William
Healey Dall (1845-1927), is an icon of the North. It
is frequently sought by hunters and photographers because
of the magnificent curled horns that grace the older
rams. This flight takes us west from Whitehorse into
the Kusawa Range. After passing over Coal and Alligator
Lakes, we will land on another high-altitude lake for
lunch. The rugged setting for this lake supports many
Dall sheep, which can be viewed with binoculars from
the lake as well as from the air. After taking in the
spectacular scenery, we will fly home over the mountains,
though Ibex Valley and then over Fish Lake.
