After taking off from Schwatka Lake at 9 a.m., we fly
east over turquoise lakes and rugged mountains to Nahanni
National Park Reserve. In 1978 this exotic wilderness
location became the world’s first World Heritage
Site, a title conferred by UNESCO. There we land on
the Nahanni River just above the Virginia Falls, a breathtaking
cascade twice the height of Niagara Falls. Accompanied
by the sound of the river, we will take a 30-minute
hike through a well-maintained park to an unforgettable
view of wild water surging around Mason’s Rock.
We will enjoy a hearty lunch before boarding our aircraft
for the scenic flight back to Whitehorse.
Total flight time is 5 hours and we spend 2 hours at
the falls.
